Parvis, whose parents once emigrated from Iran to Germany, spends his days between his parents’ attic, Grindr hookups, and rave parties. After shoplifting, he is assigned community service as a translator at a refugee center. There he meets a young woman and man — sister and brother — who have fled Iran. His time at the refugee center turns into a summer full of love and nights of dancing, moments of carefree joy overshadowed by the anxiety surrounding refugees’ uncertain residence permits.
Through the stories of people with different migration backgrounds, Parvis, who was born in Germany, begins to recognize his own suppressed sense of otherness and at the same time gains a deeper understanding of his parents’ experiences.
